To be honest, I was very creeped out by the doctor in this set of readings. I understand the reasoning behind him asking Offred to have sex with him, but it seemed that he had an ulterior motive. My question for those viewing this blog post is, should Offred had said yes to him? Would it be more beneficial for her to say yes, or would it cost her too much? We don't know everything yet, so maybe this question will be answered in later chapters, but try to answer the question to the best of your abilities.

Ugh I HATE the doctor scene. So icky. It does seem like he has an ulterior motive -- he wants to have sex with her. He makes it seem like it's in her best interest. I think she sees through that.
ReplyDeleteGreat question--that's undoubtedly a difficult decision to work through. I also wrote my blog post on this topic, and I think it's interesting that the doctor's willing to admit that men can be sterile, as it tells us a bit more about Gilead as a whole. Offred's reaction gives us as readers a lot of clues.
